Join our Innovation Sandpit

This year, we're running a hands-on project that brings together local organisations, University of Southampton researchers and students, and a panel of residents to think about how AI might be used to support organisations that are important to our city.

We're looking for civic-focused organisations curious about AI to join us, even if they're unsure where to start. We're also inviting residents to join our Citizen Panel to shape the proposals.

What's involved for organisations?

Selected organisations will collaborate with researchers, students, and the Citizen Panel to co-design and try out some AI solutions.

The sandpit offers a safe space to learn and experiment, along with access to the University's world-leading expertise. And we've recruited some of our top software engineering students to help organisations build their ideas - completely free of charge!

Organisations don't need to have any prior experience with AI - in fact, learning together is the point! We want to explore problems together, and think about where AI could help.

What's the Citizen Panel?

Residents on the Citizen Panel will guide projects by sharing experiences, ideas, and feedback. Your input will help ensure AI solutions are responsible, effective, and aligned with the community’s needs.
