Join the AI City Innovation Sandpit as an Organisation

Our AI Innovation Sandpit gives selected organisations the chance to collaborate with researchers, students, and the Citizen Panel to co-design and test some AI solutions.

We're looking for organisations that form part of Southampton's "civic fabric" - that could be working as (or with) local authorities, voluntary or third sector, or clubs and community groups. And we're interpreting Southampton widely - Eastleigh, New Forest, Test Valley - you're invited too!

The sandpit will offer a safe space to learn about and experiment with AI, along with access to the University's world-leading expertise. And we've recruited some of our top software engineering students to help organisations build their ideas - completely free of charge!

Organisations don't need to have any prior experience with AI - in fact, learning together is the point! We want to explore problems, and think about where AI could help you in your mission.

The goal of the sandpit is to learn together and explore how AI could be applied to the little tasks that would make a difference. Perhaps you could increase the efficiency of an administrative process, or make life a bit easier for your volunteers. Our structured programme will help you to think about your goals and strategy, identify where AI could fit, and develop proposals to apply it.

In the spring, a team of talented students will build prototype tools that explore some of the ideas from the workshops, and then we'll work with organisations to deploy them.

You'll get a rare opportunity to think about AI with some real experts, and perhaps the opportunity to try out some software that's been custom made for you.

You'll need to commit to attending two half-day workshops in February and March, and - if we pick your ideas to develop further - helping us to deploy and test some new tools within your organisation in the Spring.
